Syria Food Crisis: Hundreds Dying of Hunger

It’s been years since the war in Syria started. Every day, social media is bombarded with pictures and news of people dying there.
And it is not just the guns and bombs killing people, rather the unavailability of basic necessities that taking lives.
No Food for the Affected
According to the UN World Food Programme, the situation in Syria might lead to increased death toll. If no aid reaches them, the countrymen will die of starvation.
Syria is a war torn country. This has led to collapse of currency and increased food prices. Head of Donor Conference in Brussels, David Beasley stated that Syrians have no food to feed on, thus hundreds are dying of hunger.
Back in 2015, the people of the country were forced to seek shelter in neighboring countries. Where more than 380,000 people were killed in war, many successfully fled.
Even today, Syria is a picture of collapsed building and dead bodies everywhere. Those who stayed behind are forced to survive on water. Or at times eat from what little they have.
As Mr. Beasley said, “the world is going through crisis, but the situation in Syria at the moment is even worse.”
The executive director of WFP wants authorities to take rightful action. If soon no help reaches the war torn country, millions more in Syria will die.
No Tomorrow Until Aid Reaches Them
Mr. Beasley requested the authorities to reach the affected, or else, the world will see the worst mass death case in history.
Along with its partners, UN has asked for $3.8 billion in aid for Syria while another $6.04 billion for countries sheltering the refugees.
According to Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner, due to covid-19, millions of Syrians have lost livelihood. Their economy is seeing a huge downfall and sliding deeper in debt.
Humanitarian works are asking the world to come together for Syria and help those dying of hunger. But how soon aid will reach them is still a question. How many more death will the world watch until they unite against the war going in Syria.
The world needs to wake up!
