The team of researchers at Imperial College stated that Covid-19 vaccination might be available at the beginning of year 2021.
On 19th June, the first volunteer was injected with the vaccine and has been reported healthy since then. The second human trial of the vaccine has already begun in the UK. 300 volunteers and the first few volunteers have been receiving doses of the vaccine.
The university is working long hours to develop a publicly available vaccine with the help of Oxford University’s Jenner Institute.
Covid-19 Vaccination Research and Trials
Security services have warned that organizations trying to develop a corona-virus vaccine in the UK, US, and Canada are being targeted by Russian spies.
The hackers are so experienced that they were almost a part of Russian intelligence services, claims the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
The names of the targeted organizations have not yet been identified. Neither any information regarding stolen information, sources say.
But it said serum research had not been hampered by the hackers. But Russia has refused accountability.
According to the Tass news agency, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for President Putin says, ‘We do not have knowledge about who may have hacked into pharmaceutical companies and investigation centers in Great Britain. We can say one thing that Russia has nothing at all to do with these attempts.’
The international group of security services that warned about the spies includes the UK’s NCSC, the Canadian Communication Security Establishment (CSE), the United States Department for Homeland Security (DHS) Cyber-security Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the US National Security Agency (NSA).
However, it is still possible that Russian spies were involved no matter how much they deny, says an expert.
Russian Spies Attacking Corona Virus Research Centers?
From the Chatham House think tank, Emily Taylor stated, ‘The obtained knowledge is that in cyber-space, acknowledgment is challenging but not impossible’.
She added, ‘Frequently the defense facilities are much edgier in their language if they think there is any doubt.’
Emily Taylor also said, ‘Cozy Bear has been involved in past cyber-attacks and has left quite a track. And there are comparatively good connections to the Russian state itself.’
In the hope to discourage the hackers, Western security organizations have become more inclined to call out hackers aiming companies and organizations in their countries.
This spying activity, however, is not too surprising. As the research regarding the COVID-19 vaccine has become a top target for intelligence agencies around the world are likely to be active in this space.
A professor from the University of Cambridge’s Computer Laboratory, Ross Anderson, said, ‘They have lots of people. We have lots of people. The Americans and Chinese have even more people. They are all trying to steal this kind of stuff all the time’.
The country will gain power on the world stage if they find the vaccine first. That is the main reason why hackers have been looking for research.
